Helena and Tim were a creator and muse situation from the very beginning. They met in 2001 on the set of their mutual film Planet of the Apes, and instantly hit it off. They were together in a domestic partnership for 13 years and had two children together.

During the time they were together, Burton had Helena appear in almost all of his films (we did say she was his muse, right?). On her relationship with Burton, Carter said, “Sometimes you’re not meant to be forever together. But that was a gift, a massive gift. We gave each other children and a lot more.”
