Although you may think this is a problem, it’s really not! If everyone got on the world would be a very boring place full of achy mouths because everyone would spend all of their time smiling. Yet, while we don’t always gel with everyone we come into contact with, we often have to look past our differences and just get on with it. However, we’re not the only ones!
Hollywood actors are used to taking on new roles every single day, and more often than not they will appear in TV shows and movies that feature heroes, villains, and a whole host of rivalries – and it’s safe to say that we live for it. We love to get onboard the Team Jacob vs. Team Edward train, we love to get our skates on to pledge allegiance to Chazz Michael Michaels or Jimmy MacElroy, we choose between the Greasers and the Socs, and we side with either the Montagues or the Capulets. That’s just the way movies work.
Nevertheless, there are some instances where the actors themselves just can’t get along, and these are the serious co-star feuds that made these celebs never want to work together again…
Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams
Without a doubt, The Notebook is one of the most famous romcoms out there – and we have a feeling that the world has collectively cried rivers over Noah and Allie’s relationship. They were the modern-day version of Romeo and Juliet (more on those two lovebirds later) and were the complete opposite of each other, but it just worked! Although Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams seemed madly in love on the silver screen, it seems they kinda hated each other. In fact, Ryan once tried to get Rachel fired after he complained to the director about her work ethic and her annoying personality. Is the whole world a lie?
Julia Roberts and Nick Nolte
In 1994, the world was graced by a brand new rom-com by the name of I Love Trouble, and we just couldn’t get enough of seeing Julia Roberts and Nick Nolte getting their romance on. Or were they? According to reports, Julia and Nick couldn’t even stand to be in the same room as each other, and often refused to shoot certain scenes together. In fact, the producer would often have to bring in body doubles for each other actors when their scenes got a little too close for comfort. After they wrapped up filming, Roberts noted that Nolte was “completely disgusting.” Well, that’s pretty intense…
Will Smith and Janet Hubert
We just loved to watch Will Smith get his life flipped, turned upside down in the sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air all those years ago, and we also loved to watch the relationship between Will Smith and his on-screen auntie, Janet Hubert. However, after Will didn’t help Janet and the rest of the cast negotiate their salaries, Hubert’s respect for the actor went straight out of the window. It seems their feud proved too much for Hubert after a while, and she quit after three seasons of the show.
Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj
The judges on the reality show, American Idol, come and go more than we do from our own houses, and it seems like every year there is even more drama – just like the feud between Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj that rocked the American Idol boat! Just a few weeks after the two singers started working together, cracks were beginning to form between the pair, and things got even worse when Mariah reportedly told Nicki to her face that she couldn’t sing and was not talented enough to be a judge. Meow!
Meryl Streep and Dustin Hoffman
It doesn’t take a genius to know that filming a movie isn’t an easy task, but it’s even harder when your two lead actors don’t see eye to eye. That’s exactly what the producer of the drama movie, Kramer vs. Kramer had to contend with. Meryl has written about her struggles with Dustin Hoffman within her book and noted that she would often try to make changes to her character to make their scenes better, and he would simply slap away her notes and make jokes about her personal life.
Debra Winger and Shirley MacLaine
Although we loved to feel all kinds of endearment while watching the 1983 comedy drama, Terms of Endearment, it seems as though Debra Winger and Shirley MacLaine didn’t get that memo. These two leading ladies played mother and daughter in this famous movie, but they couldn’t have been less close if they tried. The stench of hatred became even worse on set when Debra Winger supposedly lifted her dress and booty coughed in the direction of Shirley MacLaine. It’s safe to say she wasn’t too impressed.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes
We told you we’d get to Romeo and Juliet! Although they may not be the real deal, Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes allowed us to fall in love with them during their time on Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of the Shakespeare play. However, it seems Juliet wasn’t quite as fond as her real-life Romeo, as young Leonardo DiCaprio would use all of his free time on set to prank the cast and crew. Claire Danes seemed to be his favorite target, so we can kinda understand her frustration.
Charlie Sheen and Selma Blair
Charlie Sheen is notorious for being a little… err… demanding. As the resident funnyman and drama king of the comedy show, Anger Management, it’s fair to say that he didn’t have to act too much to fulfill his role. However, his on-screen girlfriend wasn’t the kind of person to put up with his work ethic on set and made her opinions known. Of course, this didn’t go down too well with Charlie Sheen, who later fired her via a text message that was filled with more expletives than actual words.
Naya Rivera and Lea Michele
Glee was the kind of TV musical that we all loved to hate – and it was definitely our guilty pleasure in life. One of the main reasons for this was because of the chemistry of the cast. However, two leading ladies often clashed on set. It’s believed that Lea Michele and Naya Rivera just couldn’t see eye to eye, and as the star of the show, Lea Michele had the last word. So when she asked for Naya to be given the boot, her wish was granted!
Tyrese Gibson and James Franco
If you cast your mind back to 2006, you might remember a sports drama movie called Annapolis that featured both Tyrese Gibson and James Franco. Yet, if you don’t remember it, we don’t blame you – because this movie was considered an absolute flop, just like Tyrese and James’ relationship! Although we’re not sure why these two actors clashed on the set of the movie, we do know that Tyrese later did an interview with Playboy Magazine where he told them that he would never, ever work with Franco again. Well, that is a shame.
Teri Hatcher and Marcia Cross
Unless you were living under a rock during the early ‘00s, you’d know that Desperate Housewives was one of the most intense TV dramas of the time. Although the women of Wisteria Lane were always getting their claws out, it seems as though Teri Hatcher and Marcia Cross continued to do so even when the cameras weren’t rolling. In fact, crew members who worked on the show stated that the two leading ladies made no secret of the fact that they didn’t like each other…
Tom Hardy and Shia LaBeouf
Tom Hardy and Shia LaBeouf are both incredible actors, but apparently, if you stick too much talent in one room, it’s going to overflow into one big hot mess. That’s exactly what happened when these guys appeared in the 2012 drama, Lawless. Although we’re not sure why, many crew members have reported that Tom and Shia found themselves in a physical altercation that meant both of them had to be restrained. Tom later joked that he had been “knocked out” on set. We wonder what that scuffle was about?
Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall
It’s fair to say that SATC is still one of our favorite TV shows of all time. One of the main reasons for this is because the SATC gang were the coolest bunch of friends you ever did see – at least, that’s what we were led to believe! In real life, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall do not get on and haven’t for many years. The pair would often argue on set, and their feud is one of the reasons they haven’t got together for a third movie…
Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer
Okay, we’re totally obsessed with the saucy dance movie, Magic Mike. There’s a lot of…err… talent on display within this film, and as the stars of the show, Channing Tatum, and Alex Pettyfer won us over with their dance moves. Yet, it seems the pair didn’t win each other over. In fact, it was Alex that didn’t win Channing over! After the pair wrapped up filming, Alex confessed that he was a little rascal on set, and wasn’t surprised that Channing wasn’t fond of him.
Bea Arthur and Betty White
It seems all was not golden on the set of the sitcom, Golden Girls, as Bea Arthur had a real bee in her bonnet when it came to Betty White. Although the pair kept up appearances for the sake of filming when the cameras stopped rolling the women also stopped being nice to each other. According to reports, their feud stemmed actually stemmed from a third person. It’s believed that Rue McClanahan relayed a supposed insult that Bea had said about Betty right to her face.
Bette Davis and Joan Crawford
Unlike many of the celebrities on this list, Bette Davis and Joan Crawford didn’t fall out over their work style or their work ethic. Instead, they fell out over a man! After Bette Davis fell in love with the fellow actor, Franchot Tone, Davis thought she had used all of her allure to win him over. Unfortunately, Joan Crawford wasn’t going to let that happen. Instead, Crawford invited Tone over to her house for dinner, where she greeted him without any clothes on! Franchot ultimately chose Joan, and apparently Bette never forgave her.
Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker
Okay, we all know these two as R2-D2 and C3PO – which makes this whole feud even more upsetting. How could those two hate each other?! They’re best friends?! Unfortunately, their actors just couldn’t carry on this relationship on set. According to Daniels, this feud was sparked after he tried to say hello to Kenny Baker on set. Baker was supposedly incredibly rude and left Daniels absolutely reeling. In his words, “It was unbelievable.” This feud has crushed our Star Wars dreams.
Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Vin Diesel are two alpha males in the world of Hollywood, so it was only a matter of time before these two bumped heads. This altercation came to light while they were filming the action franchise, The Fast and the Furious. In fact, the pair has since carried on this epic feud and made the whole thing pretty public. If you get your popcorn out, you might be able to watch the whole thing unfold on both Instagram and Twitter. It’s juicy.
Lucy Liu and Bill Murray
Although she was one of Charlie’s Angels and seemed more than capable for the job, it seems as though Lucy Liu’s co-star just wasn’t as impressed as we were. While in the middle of filming an all-important scene, Bill stopped the whole production to say a few words. In this rant, he praised the talent of Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore but didn’t have anything nice to say to Lucy. In fact, he is quoted as saying, “What in the [expletive] are you doing here? You can’t act!” Ouch, that had to hurt.
Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey
Apparently, the late Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey didn’t have the time of their lives on the set of the romance movie, Dirty Dancing. There was so much friction on the set of this movie that Jennifer was less like the wind and more like a thunderstorm! It’s been noted that Grey was extremely emotional on set, and would often burst out into tears at any given moment. This proved all too much for Patrick Swayze, who was trying to perfect his nonchalant demeanor and his flexible hip thrusts.
