Who doesn’t remember the beautiful instructor, Charlotte “Charlie” Blackwood, from Top Gun. She also had some other roles in the eighties including films such as Witness where she played alongside Harrison Ford. McGillis in fact was a Golden Globe and BAFTA nominee for her role in the film. The actress actually gained her acting education when she attended the prestigious Julliard school back in the late seventies.

Since her big break, the actress had a somewhat low key acting career. Since she graduated she did mostly theatre and television and in 2007 she became a cast member on the fifth season of Showtime’s The L Word. In terms of her personal life, McGillis went through two divorces and she actually came out in 2009 during a televised interview on SheWired. She met her partner, Melanie Leis, a sales executive in 2000 when Leis was working as a bartender at the bar that the two met in. The later broke up in 2011. Just recently, the actress was assaulted by a stranger that broke into her home.
