Tesoriero and his agency were found to be responsible for paying the damages, but there was plenty of blame to go around. Both the agency and each one of the landlords had been found negligent for their failure to properly inspect, maintain and fix the lighting in Karen’s building.
Putting aside for the moment the question of legal culpability, they each had a duty to Karen, and every other tenant in the building. Nevertheless, they knowingly chose to forsake it. It was now time to pay the piper – quite literally.
