One of the biggest changes in behavior between now and the 60s was the adoption of sunblock. Back in the 60s people took to the beaches in their millions come summertime, looking to relax on the sand and catch some rays.
However, almost nobody was wearing sunblock back then, as the effects of excessive exposure to the sun were much less widely-known. Even popular sunblock brands, such as Coppertone, were focused more on its ability to help people achieve the perfect tan, as opposed to protection from the sun.
