If you ever hear an elderly person talking about how they were allowed to roam alone across the countryside for hours when they were young, you might roll your eyes – but they’re telling the truth.
Back in the 60s, worries about children being supervised were much less present, and children of young ages were often given free license to roam by themselves. Kids would walk to and from school alone, go to their friend’s house alone, and even walk around nearby countryside areas without supervision.
