Much like toys, cars in the 60s were a much riskier affair. Although they weren’t as powerful, the safety precautions in a car were far more lackluster back then. Seatbelts were either so flimsy as to be useless, or disregarded entirely and not used at all.
There were also no airbags in the event of a collision, which would certainly make you hope you’d worn your awful seatbelt. Worst of all, child safety in cars was a dire affair, with largely unregulated car seats for children, or none at all.
