One aspect of the 60s that might raise a few eyebrows nowadays was the film rating system – or rather, the lack of one. It wasn’t until 1968 that the Motion Picture Association of America introduced its rating system, meaning that beforehand, the cinema had been a freebie to anyone with the spare cents for a ticket.
It was this absence of a ratings system that let previous generations of kids cut their teeth on Hammer horrors and B-movie Sci-fi, which many would argue was an invaluable experience.
