ATMs are a deeply convenient feature of everyday life. You’re walking around when you find yourself short of cash, so you just pop over to the magic money machine and it dispenses what you need.
50 years ago, however, things were much more laborious, as the first ATMs didn’t appear in America until 1969. Instead, if you wanted cash, you had to actually make your way to the bank and ask to make a withdrawal. Inconvenient, but at least you got to play with those fun pens on chains.
