At the 2009 MTV Movie Awards, Andy Samberg performed a brilliant song along with Will Ferrell and J. J. Abrams. It was called “Cool Guys Don’t Look at Explosions,” and it pointed out something that happens pretty often in action films.
The hero just blows stuff up and walks away like it’s just another Tuesday. No big deal, just a massive explosion behind me, and damage worth millions of dollars. They simply can’t look back to see what kind of damage was caused – it wouldn’t be cool enough.
