Eventually, Cher came to the realization that she could simply leave Sonny. She was torn between the man she had loved for so long, and the freedom she knew she deserved. Tired of being cheated on, and frustrated with the lack of control she had over her own career, she decided to leave Sonny.
However, Sonny did not take kindly to this news, insisting that if she left him, it would be the end of her career, and that people would hate her.
