Dartmouth College was established back in 1769. Situated in Hanover, New Hampshire, it was originally intended to educate Native Americans on the “English way of life.” Then, not long after its establishment it was the subject of a U.S Supreme Court case.

The 1819 case helped provide greater autonomy to private institutions as the court ordered states not to interfere with their operations. It was originally more of a religious seminary, before offering a wider curriculum. Part of the Ivy League, Dartmouth College now has an acceptance rate of 11%.
