Pomona is yet another of the seven Claremont Colleges in California. In fact, it helped create the consortium. Pomona College was established in 1887 as a New England type college, only in sunny southern California.

In the 1920s it had to decide whether it would continue to serve as a small college or expand. It was at this point that it set up the Claremont Colleges consortium. The rest is history and it now has an acceptance rate of just 10%.
