It was in 1853 that 379 acres of land were purchased by the nine founders of Northwestern University, on territory that would one day be Evanston, Illinois. Just a couple of years later the university officially opened with just ten students and two faculty members.
It has certainly come a long way since then. Nowadays, the situation is quite different with thousands of students across 12 schools and 3 campuses. Getting in isn’t easy, either, with a 13% acceptance rate.
