The unethical and mysterious Dr Martin Brenner is the mastermind behind the experimental program conducted on Eleven. She refers to him as Papa but we learn he is anything but. He tortured and summoned to her a number of physically and psychologically painful experiments to test her psychic abilities. He became the only parental figure to Eleven and even with the abuse she considered him family. He took advantage of her longing and eventually came face-to-face with The Monster.
