Sean Astin signed on to Stranger Things after falling in love with the first season. Astin is no stranger to the fantasy and adventure genres. He played Sam in the Lord of the Rings films and Mike in The Goonies. What fans of the Californian actor may not know is that he is an Academy Award nominated director. His short film Kangaroo Court (which he also produced with wife Christine Astin) was nominated for an Oscar in 1995. He went on to direct a number of films and TV shows.
