As one of the most important and popular heads of state in the entire world, you’d think Queen Elizabeth would be almost impossible to get to. In 1982, that turned out not to be the case. An unemployed British man named Michael Fagan scaled Buckingham Palace’s 14-foot-high perimeter wall and climbed inside using a drainpipe.
Somehow, he found himself in the Queen’s bedroom in the early morning, with no guards in sight. The Queen woke up, and kept him talking long enough to call for help. The incident was deemed one of the 20th century’s worst security breaches.
