[post_page_title]Edward’s abdication[/post_page_title]
Back in 1936, Queen Elizabeth’s uncle was on the throne. King Edward VII never really wanted to rule, and liked the job even less when he couldn’t marry the woman he loved. That woman? Wallis Simpson, both American and divorced.

Edward’s abdication

In the days before Meghan Markle, that was a deal-breaker. Indeed, neither the government nor the Church of England could stomach the idea. Edward decided that if he couldn’t be king and marry Simpson, he wouldn’t be king and do it. He abdicated the throne and the two married, and remained together until his passing in 1972.
