By the time Queen Elizabeth ascended to the throne, they had been married a few years, but it seems as if Prince Philip had not been aware of what she had planned when it came to her family name. Prince Philip was not happy about the fact he could not pass his name down to his children.
It’s not something he expected to give up. He reportedly became so enraged that he shouted that he was just an “amoeba.” He clearly felt worthless and cast aside, which was not a position and situation he was overly familiar with.
