Some women aren’t too worried about carrying on their family name since it’s still quite common that the female would give it up once getting married anyway. Although many people now also opt to double-barrel their surnames so that they both have representation.
Some people are attached to their family name, and they like to hold on to the identity they have grown up with. However, males always grow up with the idea they can hand their surnames down as a given. This is what bothered Prince Philip.
