Skyfall was the moment we all realized James Bond wasn’t quite as perfect as we all thought he was. He didn’t manage to save M, and perhaps we can blame her downfall on the caretaker of the manor.
Kincaid has been looking after that old building for decades, and should know his way around it in the dark. Instead he uses a flashlight from the tunnel to the chapel, which gives their escape away. If he had made his way in the dark M would have escaped.
