As he was lying in his hospital, trying to get his bearings and realizing that he was, in fact, still alive, Smith said he was awash with a sort of calm. He got to live a great life, he said – he was loved by his parents, got to have a “weird, wonderful” career and had the best wife in the world and an incredible daughter. He was, in his own words, “relatively content.” Content he may have been, but he wasn’t done. Not by a long shot.
