They say that the third time’s the charm, but this wouldn’t prove to be true for Carson. On September 30 1972, during The Tonight Show’s 10-year anniversary party, he revealed that he and former model Joanna Holland had been married in secret earlier that day.
Although surprising news, the two seemed a good fit – and while they were married many friends of the couple cited Joanna as a positive influence on Carson. Unfortunately, Johnny’s personal struggles proved to be too much of a strain yet again, and Holland filed for divorce on March 8, 1983.
