In 1948, Carson married his first wife, Jody Wolcott, and they eventually had three children together: Christopher, Cory, and Richard. The couple met and married while Johnny was just starting out in show business, and this put a large amount of strain on their marriage.
Carson was working constantly in an attempt to make his way up the ladder, and Wolcott was distressed by what she saw as his ignoring of their marriage and family. Eventually, the marriage would break down, and the couple filed for divorce in 1963.
