Carson’s family struggles were not simply limited to those with his various wives, either. Unfortunately, his constant work and personal issues led to a less than stellar relationship with each of his sons. For most of their adult lives Carson was estranged from all three, and saw them very rarely.
It’s reported that he actually had an altercation with his son, Richard, at a party celebrating The Tonight Show’s 25-year run. However, when Richard passed in 1991, Carson would deliver a touching tribute to him on the show.
