It was a pistol owned and used by an African American officer in the Civil War – an officer who was originally from New Orleans, Louisiana. The pistol is engraved with the officer’s name and unit, and sheds light on the story of Black soldiers fighting against oppression with the Union army. The store ended up buying the gun for $6,000.
