World War One was a devastating war which destroyed vast swathes of Europe. It was the first time modern militaries fought each other and not just against tribesmen in Africa, Asia, or South America. During this time, there were shortages of nearly everything in all countries, and people had to ration out goods. This poster from the UK was probably meant for the posher areas of society, begging them to give up butlers and new clothes for a bit.
