The casual reader might be scratching their heads in confusion at this photo, which seems to show two casually-dressed hip cats in swinging London. But look harder – the photo depicts the 1970 marriage of Angelina Barnett to someone you may have heard of – David Bowie.
The two met when Angelina was just 19, and had one son together. Her love didn’t just lift Bowie’s spirit, either – it also lifted his career, as she was responsible for helping the musical legend conceptualize his Ziggy Stardust persona. They divorced in 1980.
