From 1985 to 1989, Madonna was married to actor Sean Penn. Both of their careers, hers in music and his in acting, were skyrocketing at the time, making them a true power couple in Hollywood.
The two starred in the film Shanghai Surprise together but the the film was considered to be one of the worst of the decade. In 1987, Madonna filed for divorce but retracted the papers thereafter. In 1989, she filed again and stuck with it. The two were divorced that year and went on to be in other longstanding marriages.
