Although she tried to put on a strong front, Gabourey knew even at 6 years old that she needed to make a change. So, she went on her first diet and attempted to lose the weight. She wanted her father to call her by her real name, and she wanted her brother to respect her. However, as she continued to be emotionally and physically hurt by those around her, she turned to the one thing she knew would never hurt her in life. She turned to junk food, and she just didn’t want to stop eating.
