Gabourey has always struggled with her weight and her size, and her parents noticed that she began to pile on the pounds when she was just a toddler. Although her mother always tried to help her and allow her to enjoy being a child, her father and her brother were not so forgiving. During an interview with Nylon magazine, she actually noted that her older brother was her very first bully and that her father used to physically and emotionally abuse her about her weight. He even concocted harsh nicknames for his daughter.
