Gabourey wanted to ensure that her speech at the Curvy Con event was memorable, and she wanted to use her platform to inspire other curvy women out there who often found themselves struggling. She used her opportunity to state that larger men and women are still being discriminated against in society. However, she also noted that it’s “important to keep fighting [and] to keep being visible until the conversation changes and [it] is no longer about our bodies.” She wants people to realize that a person is so much more than their outward appearance.
