However, this wasn’t the only aspect of her life that gave Gabourey strength to continue. From an early age, she surrounded herself with books about psychology. She loved to read self-help books, and loved to study the art of therapy techniques and coping mechanisms. These books eventually lit a fire inside of Gabourey, and she soon decided that she wanted to study psychology after high school. She enrolled at Mercy College and even paid for her own therapy sessions to try and improve her life.
