Groom describes Forrest Gump as a man who is 6 foot 6 inches tall and weighing in at 240 pounds. Tom Hanks is neither of those things, which is why Groom wanted actor John Goodman to play the part of Forrest in the film.
In addition to the physical differences, the film cut out some of the feats that Forrest reaches, such as becoming an astronaut, running for the United States Senate, and taking part in a chess tournament.
