Where else was the production going to find so many men and women with long hair like they had back then than at a Renaissance festival?
In a stroke of genius, casting director Ellen Lewis realized that there was a Renaissance festival that usually takes place nearby and knew that there she would find plenty of men and women who would boast long hair fit for a hippie! She indeed succeeded and these men and women were the extras she needed for the scenes in D.C.
