One of the things that amazed David was the fact there was evidence the hive was actively getting bigger. He spotted several capped chambers which he understood to be holding queen bees inside.
There were 13 new queens just waiting to fly the nest and set up their own colonies elsewhere. The bees were thriving in this spot, and David thought if they had been left alone for another couple of weeks, the hive would have doubled in size.
