A former boyfriend from her college days proposed to the young journalist, but she rejected his offer and went on to marry her fiancé. While the news of rejection may have been heartbreaking at the time, her previous boyfriend remained a family friend for many years and helped the family through legal issues, such as her father’s arrest for missing a court date.
