The castle was built around 1890, but it actually took over 20 years to complete before it was finally finished in 1913. All of that hard work was done by Alfred Abeel, a businessman who wanted to mark his claim on the area. Although Alfred has since passed, the castle still remains as one of the most prominent landmarks in the city, and was even an inspiration for its neighborhood – Castle Heights.
Now, the property covers 6,700 square feet as the stone building towers above the majority of its surroundings. With so many projects under their belt already, could this have been a purchase too far for Chip and Joanna? After all, this castle would need a lot to bring it into the 21st century.
