[post_page_title]The Polar Express – Get us off this train[/post_page_title]
At the time of its release in 2004, The Polar Express was considered an achievement in motion capture animation – live actors performing the role and having a CGI character animated onto them. Director Robert Zemeckis later perfected it in Beowulf, but Polar Express now seems like a very early rough draft.
This once again seems like a case of the technology simply not being where it needed to be, at least in hindsight. Instead of making the character look and feel more natural, it’s disturbing – mostly due to Tom Hanks’ unsettling conductor.
