Director Emile Ardolino was an Academy Award winning director when he heard about Dirty Dancing’s production. He was the director of the documentary, He Makes Me Feel Like Dancing.
When he heard about Dirty Dancing, he wanted the director’s job so much that he went to producers and screenwriters to ask for the job. Ardolino begged for the job even when he was on jury duty at the time; he couldn’t imagine not getting the directing job for a film he connected to so much.
