Kelly Bishop played the role of Mrs. Houseman, but the role found her rather than the other way around. Bishop was supposed to play a resort resident who had a reputation for being a cougar.
When the original Mrs. Houseman, Lynn Lipton, got ill at the beginning of filming, producers replaced her with Bishop. It was her role as Baby’s mother that landed her the role of the snobby yet beloved grandmother on this hit television show, Gilmore Girls.
