In Hollywood, the ultimate sign of success and longevity is often seeing a musical open based on a film. Indeed, screenwriter Eleanor Bergstein edited her screenplay to work for a live musical production. And thus, Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story on Stage was born in 2004.
The play has been showing in Chicago, Toronto, and throughout Europe, while it also toured the United States in 2014. The play’s success is not questionable at all, but it has sadly yet to achieve Broadway-level success.
