McNichol started getting noticed in the acting world for featuring in commercials. However, eventually she moved on to guest-starring in shows such as ‘Starsky and Hutch’ and ‘The Bionic Woman’. 1976 saw McNichol land the role of Letitia Lawrence in the series ‘Family’, where she earned two Emmys.

Since starring in several high profile and successful roles, McNichol has retired from acting altogether. Her publicist announced that her retirement was for her mental health. Since then, she has been teaching acting in a private L.A. school.
