Before portraying Captain Samantha Thomas in the show, Valen pursued a career in theater. For this, she moved to the Big Apple, landing a small soap opera role. She appeared in several shows, including Miami Vice and Murder, She Wrote.
After Baywatch, Valen did a number of one-episode guest appearances on shows like Friends, Boy Meets World, and Full House. She later stopped acting and invested her time in producing, establishing her own production company. She helped produce some big hit series, including Celebrity Ghost Stories. The 53 year-old actress has been married since 1994.
