The Kingdom of Egypt lasted for thousands of years and had hundreds of rulers. And yet, we only see about 80 of the structures scattered around Egypt.
Why is this? Well, as it turns out, pyramid building was really only en vogue during the time of the Old Kingdom, which lasted about 500 years (2613BCE-2181BCE). After this, only a few Middle Kingdom pharaohs decided that they would build smaller pyramids for themselves, with the rest of the New Kingdom pharaohs deciding to be buried in the “valley of the kings.”
