Sometimes we need a way to clear out our minds and put things in perspective. Using a blog or journal can be the perfect way to clear up space in your brain while also developing your writing skills. It’s a win-win situation! The best bit? You can fit this is at any time of the day to suit your routine.
Get reading
What else are you going to do with all that spare time on your hands? It doesn’t have to be one of those college textbooks either – although, this could be the perfect time to get a head start on your classes. Magazines, newspapers, or novels can all help grow your vocabulary, get your brain thinking, and learn about the world.
Keep up with the news
Of course, knowing what’s going on in the world can have many benefits in our lives, as well as keeping your mind sharp over the summer college break. Not only will it give you something to discuss, but reading the news can also help develop the emotional parts of your brain as you understand how world issues affect others in the world.
Use maps not GPS
It can be all too easy to pull out our phones and use the maps – most of us are guilty of it! However, we could be making things tougher for ourselves in the long run. Using a map helps us learn a new skill as well as developing our memory and getting us thinking as we have to plan out a route rather than having one handed to us on a plate.
Volunteer
With all that time on your hand, now could be the chance to get out there and offer up your help to benefit others. As well as a sense of achievement, you could also find yourself learning about a whole new aspect of life in addition to listening to stories from others you may get to work with. What better way to keep your mind sharp?

We don’t always need to head to the gym for the chance to flex our muscles. Learning a new language can be the best way to show off our brain power. The summer is the perfect chance to test our minds as there is nothing around us to offer a distraction. Plus, you’ll be able to show off to all your friends by the time you head back to campus.
