The ‘80s without a doubt revolutionized the teen movie. Modern day teen movies like Mean Girls, Bring it On, Easy A, or even High School Musical would not have been possible without the ‘80s movies that started the trend. Movies such as The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, St. Elmo’s Fire, Footloose, Sixteen Candles, and Back to the Future presented teenagers in a way that that previous decades had seemingly ignored. The movies allowed the youth the be the heroes of the story, and their feelings and relationships were something that teen viewers felt like they could relate to.

Young people could not get enough of these films, and with the teen movie revolution, came a wave of something else unlike anything pop culture had seen before, the worship of teen idols. The actors and actresses in these films catapulted to fame, and were at the center of the media. Fans wanted to know everything and anything about them, and would mimic their hairstyles, clothing, and more.

One journalist even dubbed a select group of these young actors and actresses as the “Brat Pack,” which was meant to be a youthful play on the “Rat Pack.” The name stuck, and the group became synonymous with the decade. These days we can’t help but immediately become nostalgic the second we hear the name mentioned, as if we can suddenly hear “Don’t You Forget About Me” playing in the background.

The actresses of the Brat Pack, as well as the other teen actresses of the time, ruled the decade, and helped define a generation of young women. But many have wondered, what ever happened to them after the ‘80s? Do they still have careers after all this time? Either way, it’s fun to think back, take a walk down memory lane, and remember the incredible characters that we all know and love today.
