America is known by many names. It’s known as the “Land of the Free,” the “Home of the Brave,” the “Melting Pot” and even “Uncle Sam.” Yet, no matter which nickname you choose to use, it’s fair to say that there are certain images of this country that rarely change. Many of these images have probably come from famous monuments that adorn these ever-changing lands. These American monuments are famous across the world, and people travel from far and wide to see them for their very eyes while taking an epic selfie in front of it for the ‘Gram. Yet, it’s not just foreigners who make it their mission to see these iconic monuments. Many Americans go on pilgrimages each year and travel across states to see what the great country has to offer. They take a trip on the Staten Island Ferry to check out Lady Liberty and her flaming beacon. They check out Washington D.C to catch a glimpse of the Washington Monument, they climb the steps to see Abraham Lincoln sitting on his giant chair at the Lincoln Memorial, they look up to see the impressive Gateway Arch in St. Louis, and they take awesome reflective pictures in Chicago as they stand beneath the famous ‘Cloud Gate’ sculpture. Mount Rushmore National Memorial is famous across the world for behind ahead of the game in monuments – quite literally. Located in the Black Hills in Keystone, South Dakota, this giant sculpture features the heads of four former presidents of the United States of America. Yes, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln all sit atop the memorial park, with each of the heads stand a whopping 60-foot high. Although this impressive structure represents the history and the politics of America, the structure has also become an iconic figure within the world of popular culture. In fact, many major TV shows and movies throughout history have either used the existing structure within their stories or have altered it slightly for entertainment purposes. It’s been used in various science-fiction shows and movies such as Superman II, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, The Cursed Earth and more. Yet it hasn’t stopped there.

This location has also been the scene for various iconic movie moments, including the final scene in Alfred Hitchcock’s legendary thriller movie, North By Northwest. More often than not, this location is used for secret hideaways and military bases that hide behind the rocks – but it seems as though this idea is not quite as silly as it may sound.
