If you’re currently in your bedroom looking at The Chair of Doom, you’re probably hoping that all of the dirty clothes you piled up on there will magically disappear and reappear as soon as you blink. However, we’re gonna save you the hassle of fluttering your eyelashes like a banshee, because it’s not gonna happen. #SorryNotSorry. Unfortunately, being an ‘adult’ means that you now have to do your own laundry. We know. It totally sucks. If you need a little helping hand, this is exactly how to do your own laundry like an expert.
Give yourself a schedule
There’s nothing worse than realizing you’re completely out of clean underwear – especially if you’re not fond of going commando. To truly boss your laundry experience, you need to give yourself a schedule. You need to work out when you start to run out of clean clothes and dedicate a few hours each week to getting your wash on. This way you can easily incorporate this new task into your life, and have clean clothes in the process. I mean, it’s a win-win situation.
Get your reading glasses on
Although you will need your reading glasses if you plan on reading War & Peace while your clothes whizz around and around, you’ll also need these bad boys before you put on your washing. All of your clothes are completely different colors, sizes, and fabrics – which means they have their own requirement when it comes to washing. By reading the labels, you will be able to see what you really need to do to get your favorite cardigan looking as good as new. It may be that you have to wash by hand or it may be that you have to wash on a certain temperature. You need to check!
Separate one from the other
If you’ve ever tried to wash your clothes before, you may have noticed the odd pink sock fall into your hands, or a green sweater that you were sure was previously yellow. One of the main enemies of any laundry buff is the odd color. Yep, it’s best to separate your white clothes from your dark clothes, as this will avoid color runs. Just having one red pair of pants in your wash can turn your whole white wardrobe pink, so unless you want to look like the Easter Bunny, you might want to check yourself before you wreck yourself.
Speed up the drying process
If you’ve once again left your laundry to the last minute, you might be hoping for a miracle when you pop your dress into the washing machine an hour before you need to go out for a hot date. There’s no way it’s going to dry in time, right? Well, you can certainly speed up the drying process. Hurrah! One of the best ways to do this is to place a dry towel in with your washing. If your towel is doing its job properly, it will absorb most of the moisture in the machine, and leave your clothes a bit more dry than normal.
Fold your clothes
Okay, this may seem like we’re adding another chore onto your never-ending list, but we can guarantee that you’ll thank us for this one. Washing and drying your clothes is only half the battle when it comes to doing your laundry, as you also need to make sure that you fold your clothes afterward. Not only does this stop them from creasing, but it also stops them from getting smelly and damp. Nobody wants that.
Do you struggle with your laundry? Well, say goodbye to the Chair of Doom, because with these epic laundry tips, you’ll be an expert in no time. You can thank us by doing our laundry for us!
