Hand of God cast show vs. life

“In sanity we trust…” is the tagline for the Amazon Prime psychological thriller series, Hand of God. The show’s pilot was first shown to viewers back in August 2014, as a form of market research. People were able to say what they liked and disliked about the show, before the studio decided if they wanted to commission a whole series. By October 2014, Amazon had ordered a full series of the show which then premiered in September 2015. With an extremely unique concept, not everyone was sure how the series would pan out, and it received a mixed reception when it aired. Critics couldn’t decide whether this was a clever, new show or “mind-boggling bad” as one critic claimed. Hand of God follows the tragic story of Pernell Harris, played by Ron Perlman, whose son has tried to take his own life after an incident with his wife. He then believes that God is speaking to him, through his son who is in a coma in hospital. Deciding to find faith and getting himself baptized, Pernell Harris is determined to bring vigilante justice to those who have caused his family harm. He joins a potentially shady new church called Hand of God, in an effort to pursue his new destiny. However, not everyone is impressed with the corrupt judge’s choices, including his wife, Crystal Harris (played by Dana Delany). Alongside the main characters, there is an excellent supporting cast of friends, family, enemies, and detectives, all either working with or against Pernell Harris. Is God really talking to the judge or is he simply suffering a breakdown? Over the next two series, it’s down to the viewers and the cast to piece it all together.

Unfortunately, Amazon announced in 2016 that the second series would signal the end for Hand of God, despite positive ratings with viewers. The second season premiered on Amazon Prime in March 2017, featuring ten episodes to bring the whole drama to a close. However, in some cases, it just left fans wanting more. Now that the show has ended let’s look back at some of the most prominent cast members and what they’re like in real life. Has this series kickstarted any of their careers? Or did the critics’ comments on the show ruin their acting credentials?
